Labiaplasty / Labia Rejuvenation is a surgical procedure to correct enlarged or disfigured labia
Labiaplasty, often spelled labioplasty, is a cosmetic vaginal
surgery which can enhance appearance and self-esteem. For some women it
can enhance function. It involves reduction of the labia minora (inner
lips). There is great variation in the size of the labia minora. Women
will notice elongated or large labia as early as puberty or following
pregnancy.
During
child delivery, the stretching and tearing of the vagina can occur causing an
abnormal or odd appearance. An episiotomy can often heal poorly this can also
distort the vaginal entrance. The labia will no longer touch at the center
and the outer vagina will look stretched or elongated.
Many
women request labial reduction, labiaplasty, or laser reduction labiaplasty,
despite not having children. The most common reason for requesting labiaplasty
is to get an improvement in the look for cosmetic purposes. This procedure is
also performed for functional reasons, such as irritation when riding a horse
or bicycle. Pain or soreness during sexual activity or intercourse is another
reason women often request labial reduction or labiaplasty.
