Labiaplasty is the technical term for Reduction of the Labia or Labial Reduction. Labiaplasty is cosmetic procedure that surgically improves the physical appearance and function of the vagina. This particular procedure involves reducing the size of the labia minora, or inner lips of the vagina.
The size of the labia minora can vary greatly from woman to woman. Women with elongated or enlarged labia may notice as early as puberty, but typically women will complain of a difference after experiencing a vaginal delivery during childbirth. The strain and tearing on a woman’s vagina during delivery may results in an asymmetrical or enlarged appearance one she has healed. An episiotomy that has healed improperly can result in an unattractive or misshapen appearance as well. The vagina may appear stretched or worn if the labia no longer meet evenly.
Yet, many women who have never experienced childbirth request Labiaplasties as well, to refresh or cosmetically enhance the appearance or performance of their labia. The most common reason for requesting a Labiaplasty is to improve the outward appearance of the labia. Women who experience discomfort during regular, daily activity are also common patients of Labiaplasty procedures. Experiencing pain or irritation during sexual intercourse is yet another common complaint and motivation for undergoing Labiaplasty.
